Wander through the cobbled streets, open mysterious doors, enjoy poetic pauses in the shade of the tree-lined squares - that's the programme for your next visit to Grimaud with sous le Soleil de Marie.
Did you know that under the Ancien Régime, the area was known as the Golfe de Grimaud, a symbol of seigneurial power? Your tour guide, a native of the area, will reveal to you
traces of a bygone era that time has all but erased.
The tour begins with a visit to the Saint-Roch district and its windmill, where the village's miller once worked. From the top of this windy site, you can see several centuries of agricultural activity developed by the first inhabitants of Grimaud.
On your way back to the heart of the village, you'll come to the church of Saint-Michel, one of the oldest Romanesque churches in the area.
The walk continues along the walls of the medieval houses, which reveal their past if you take the time to observe them.
As you stroll along the intertwined streets, you'll be charmed by the enchanting scents of jasmine or bougainvillea in bloom, while little green lizards will hide as you pass, between the joints of the marbled or volcanic stones of Provence.
The walk ends with a trip back up to the feudal castle, whose keep was at the origin of the village's development.
Grimaud castle dominates the Gulf and its surroundings, offering a unique view of the hills, the surrounding area and the sea.
At the end of the tour, the local heritage will hold no more secrets for you.
As an added bonus, your guide will give you all the tips and addresses not to be missed in Grimaud.
