Le Fort Vauban de Seyne

Historic site and monument ( UNESCO World Heritage - 12th C - 17th C )

The Vauban citadel, overlooking Seyne, bears witness to the history of the valley since the 17th century.

All year round, daily.
Closed exceptionally on 24/12/2024, 31/12/2024, January 1st, Whit Monday, July 14th, November 11th and December 25th.

You will discover genuine cannons, the impressive period cistern with its stalactites, the old bread oven, films, and exhibitions on the history of Seyne and its fortress.

You will come across Mark Dion contemporary artwork “The dungeon of the sleeping bear” (Le donjon de l’ours qui dort) which is part of the Viapac network and a temporary exhibition about the writer Jean Proal, both free to visit.

This historical citadel full of character is a must-visit of the region. It bears witness to a rich history with its impressive stone walls, it also offers stunning views of the mountains and the village from the top of the high tower, classified as a Historical Monument.
Visiting the citadel guarantees a journey through time allowing you to learn more about Vauban’s work.

The citadel is open all year round for self-guided visits and also offers guided tours and commentary in July and August (assured by the association Fort et Patrimoine du Pays de Seyne). Guided tours can be arranged throughout the year for groups upon reservation.
