Let's head to Cuba for this third evening of the Grimaldines, where you can enjoy a concert by the last living legend of the Buena Vista Social Club, Eliades Ochoa!
On this third evening of the Grimaldines festival, Cuban music will resonate in the grounds of the Château de Grimaud to the warm, lively rhythms of Eliades Ochoa.
One of the last great names of the Buena Vista Social Club, nicknamed the ‘Cuban Johnny Cash’, with his cowboy hat, dark outfit and black boots, is stopping off in Grimaud to take you on a musical journey.
An emblematic figure of ‘son cubano’ and a defender of this music with deep roots, he perpetuates its heritage while adding his own unique touch.
Born to sing, Eliades Ochoa began his career at the age of 12 in the streets and bars of Cuba. He was a member of several groups, Quinteto Oriental, then Septeto Tipico, before joining Cuarteto Patria as orchestra director in 1978.
But it was with Buena Vista Social Club that his career took on an international dimension, taking him to the world's most prestigious venues. He became one of the most emblematic members of this collective and the legendary voice of the cult track ‘Chan Chan’, one of Buena Vista Social Club's most famous songs.
Since then, he has recorded some fifteen albums, won four Latin Grammy Awards and even performed at the White House in 2015 in front of Barack Obama. His album AfroCubism (2010), the result of a unique collaboration with Mali's finest musicians, earned him a Grammy nomination and demonstrated his talent for fusing African and Cuban musical styles.
In 2023, he unveiled ‘Guajiro’, an intimate, personal album on which he retraces his journey with music that is imbued with emotion and authenticity.
With sounds that blend traditional and contemporary influences, he has produced a work worthy of his talent.
The last living legend of the Buena Vista Social Club, rarely seen in France, Eliades Ochoa will be setting the mood in Grimaud with his energy, powerful voice and unconditional love of Cuban music.
Enjoy an exceptional evening of good humour and celebration!
