Bernard Buffet in Saint-Tropez" exhibition: a poetic look at the town through the work of the master of expressionism. Luminous canvases in a Mediterranean atmosphere. On view until May 18 at Galerie Paul Janssen.

Discover the work of Bernard Buffet (1928-1999), master of French Expressionism, whose unmistakable style continues to leave its mark. A precocious and prolific painter, Buffet fiercely opposed the dominant abstraction of his time, defending an intense, dark and profoundly human figuration. His sharp lines, angular faces and austere palette convey a melancholy vision of the world, imbued with the torments of the post-war era.

But beyond this gravity, the exhibition reveals a more intimate and luminous aspect of the artist: his passionate relationship with Saint-Tropez. From the 1950s onwards, Bernard Buffet spent his summers there in the company of his wife, the muse Annabel Schwob. The town's Mediterranean charm, unique light, bustling port and authentic La Ponche streets were a deep inspiration to the painter.

Through a selection of rare works, the exhibition highlights this emotional and artistic bond between man and town. We discover a Saint-Tropez seen through Buffet's eyes: a poetic, vibrant, sometimes nostalgic, always sincere place. His brushwork, both powerful and masterful, captures the very essence of Tropezian life.

This exhibition is an invitation to rediscover Bernard Buffet in a new way - not only as a master of pain and solitude, but also as an artist touched by the beauty and light of the South. An immersion in a universe where each canvas is a window onto the soul of a man and the soul of a place.
