To celebrate International Dance Day, head to Cambodia to celebrate the beauty of gesture, dance, and its eternity…

INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY
Celebrate dance in its universality, crossing all political, cultural, and ethnic barriers to come together and celebrate International Dance Day. This is the journey offered by the Médiathèque and Le Pagnol cinema!
THE FILM: THE BEAUTY OF GESTURE - DANCE AND ETERNITY (2023)
As beautiful as it is informative, exploring dance, resilience, and the quest for identity, Xavier de Lausanne's documentary is a fascinating journey through the history of Cambodia, punctuated by its legendary Royal Ballet.
In 1906, Auguste Rodin discovered Cambodian dancers during a performance by the Royal Ballet in Paris. Overwhelmed by this experience and their gestures, he produced a masterful work of 150 watercolors in just a few days. From then on, until the creation of a new show for a tour of France and Switzerland a century later, the Royal Cambodian Ballet survived the trials of history and transported us, between East and West, into a world of splendor and mystery.
THE DEBATE: DANCE, A REFLECTION OF A PEOPLE AT THE SOURCES OF TRADITION
The discussion is led by Florence Carlini, who holds a Master of Arts (DEA) in comparative literature and dance history.
