The coastal cycle path (named the V65 by the cycle paths and greenways guide) runs between Six Fours and Fréjus. It takes you exploring the Var coastline along the route of the old “Train des Pignes” railway track.
You’ll leave Roquebrune-sur-Argens and the gulf of Saint-Tropez behind you and enter the Esterel region. First you’ll arrive at the little marina of Les Issambres, where the “Avenue de l’Ancien Train des Pignes” begins. Take this road to avoid cycling on the extremely busy coastal road of Les Issambres.
This uphill stretch is undeniably worth the effort when you see the lovely panoramic view before you. Once past the tip of Les Issambres, the majestic bay of Fréjus comes into view against the colourful backdrop of the shimmering Esterel mountains.
Although this section of the itinerary is not specifically developed for cycle touring, you’ll love exploring the rich Mediterranean landscape of garrigue, beaches, creeks, coves and turquoise waters. You can even stop for a refreshing break whenever you feel like it.
The road continues around the gulf until you reach the final section of the V65 cycle path, which takes you to Fréjus via Saint-Aygulf and the mouth of the River Argens.
